THE INCREDIBLE WILLIAM SISTERS

Venus Williams, 29 years old, and Serena Williams, 27 years old,  are the only sisters’ in the world who have dominated the Worlds Women Tennis for the last almost ten years. These two are going strong and are winning their matches  with  incredible display of superb tennis.

Both the Williams sisters have been ranked World No. 1 in their career. Venus has been top ranked for a total of 11 weeks, beginning February 2002. Serena has been top ranked for a total of 66 weeks, beginning  July 2002. Serena is the current World No. 2 and Venus is the current World No. 3.  The Williams Sisters are the only two women to play each other in four consecutive grand slams.

Serena Williams is an American professional tennis player. She has been ranked World No. 1 by the Women’s Tennis Association on four separate occasions. She is the most recent female player to hold all four Grand Slam singles titles simultaneously. She also has won more Grand Slams than any other female player and has also has won more career prize money than any other female athlete in history

Venus is the elder sister of former World No 1 professional female tennis player.  Williams; the sisters, have played each other in 20 professional matches dating back to 1998, with matches played between them tied at 10-10, as of May 2009.

Venus Williams’ game is very well adapted to grass where she feels most comfortable, which is reflected in her Grand Slam results as she has five Wimbledon titles.

Although Serena’s forehand is among the most powerful shots in the women’s game, her backhand is considered to be one of the best on the Women’s Tennis Association tour.

Venus Williams has the most powerful serve and holds the record for the fastest serve struck by a woman in a main draw event. At the Zurich Open, she recorded 130 mph (210 km/h

How they reached the finals

Venus defeated   Dinara Safina  6-1, 6-0 on Saturday,  in a swift 51 minutes and is looking forward to her sixth Wimbledon title.

 The semi-final match between Serena and Dementieva was a fine exhibition in women’s tennis. On the Thursday,  Serena came back, after losing the first set to Dementeiva 6-7 and won the next two sets with sheer power and skill at her command, 7-5, 8-6. It was the longest women’s Semi final and the best Grand Slam match in women’s history.

This years Wimbledon final is between these  two sisters – Venus and Serena and is being played at London

The Ladies final.

The Wimbledon ladies final 2009 was played between Venus and Serena Williams. Venus was not looking in her best form, perhaps a bit tired plus some minor difficulty in running around as  her left knee was hurting.  Serena was in her best form and served aces with ease. In all she sent down 12 aces as compared to Venus’ 2.  After  44  minutes the first  set was tied at 6-6 when the tie breaker was introduced. It was during this tie break that Serena played exceptionally well and won the first set 7-6 with some stunning display of superb tennis.

Serena got her first service break in the second set and moved on to lead her sister Venus  4-2. She then followed this and won her  service game bringing the score to 5-2 in her favour. Serena got two match points which Venus managed  to save, and then Serena got the third game – set and match point, which she won.  Serena defeated Venus  7-6, 6-2.

Prize Distribution.

Firstly,  Venus received the runners up trophy from the Duke of Kent and then Serena  was  elated as she held the Winners trophy aloft  which brought the packed Wimbledon Stadium  in raptures. This is the same Trophy which Venus had won last year and this was Serena’s 11th Grand Slam title. After receiving the trophy Serena said, “I am so amazed, I should not be holding this trophy. It has  been named for Venus as she always wins. It hasn’t settled in that I have won it”.

Venus and Serena are to play the Wimbledon Ladies doubles final against Samantha Stosur and Rennee Stubs later today.
