KOLKATTA K.R. BEAT R.C.BANGALORE

It was a huge win for Kolkata Knight Riders in front of a packed Eden Gardens crowd on Sunday.  Angelo Mathews bowled very well and picked up 4 wickets for 19 runs. This was KKRs second consecutive win and are at present at the head of the table with 4 points.

Kolkata took charge of the match right from the beginning and Bangalore’s top order including Manish Pandey and Virat Kohli failed. The entire Bangalore batting did not click with the exception of Jacques Kallis who made an unbeaten 65 and tried to give some semblance to the total, but did not succeed and couldn’t save Bangalore from disaster.

Kallis tried to consolidate the innings with Dravid but unfortunately Dravid edged the ball from Mathews onto his stumps. Next in Bangalore’s line up was Virat Kolhi who is otherwise a dependable bat, but he too did not last and Bangalore were 20 for 3. Mathews bowled superbly and picked up 4 for 19 runs and Kartik also varied his pace and effectively.

It was Kartik who provided excitement to the crowd by bowling Bangalore’s Eoin Morgan who was playing confidently but was bowled by a short, slow ball while trying his reverse sweep. Kolkata were in charge after Bangalore’s talented youngsters fell cheaply, followed by Eoin Morgan. Bangalore were then 35 for 4.

Robin Uthappa was looking to open up in the 18th over, but was dismissed by Mathews just after hitting his first boundary. Three balls later, Mathews removed van der Merwe as well, reducing Bangalore to 112 for 7 after 18 overs In a three-over period.

Tiwary and Hodge played with caution as well as aggression and Bangalore’s attack was torn apart. Kolkata batsmen made mince meat of the RCB bowling and overhauled the total which did not seem like a fighting total by any stretch of imagination.

Manoj Tiwary’s initial stroke play ensured that the match turned totally in favour of KKR. Manoj Tewari and Brad Hoge both went on to complete their half centuries and KKR made the requisite runs finishing the match at 136 for 3 beating the Royal Challangers by 7 wickets.

Manoj Tewari picked up the award for the maximum sixes and was also declared the Man of the Match.

Scores. Kolkata Knight Riders 136 for 3 (Tiwary 50, Hodge 50) and Royal Challengers Bangalore 135 for 7.

Deccan Chargers beat Chennai Super Kings

In the other match of IPL-3 played on Sunday, Deccan Chargers beat Chennai Super Kings by 31 runs.

Adam Gilchrist won the toss at Chinnaswamy Stadium, Chennai on Sunday in the IPL 2010 and elected to bat. Andrew Symonds’ half-century and Herschelle Gibbs 45 brought Deccan Chargers to a fighting score of 190-4. This also included contributions of Gilchrist (38) Rohit Sharma (19) and Luxman (12).

Symonds hit three sixes in his 43-ball knock while Gibbs struck five fours and a six as they both added 95 runs for the third wicket. after captain Adam Gilchrist got the Chargers off to a  start after electing to bat.

Gibbs and Symonds steadied the Deccan Chargers before launching into the Super Kings, but the visitors were again pulled back by the run outs of both the batsmen. Rohit Sharma and Suman then lifted the team to a stiff total in the final overs.

Off-spinner R Ashwin was the most successful bowler for Chennai with 1-26 from his four overs, while star spinner Muralitharan gave away 28 runs from his four.

Vaas took three wickets in his first two overs as Chennai, chasing a formidable score of 191 for victory, lost too many wickets in the beginnning. Captain MS Dhoni (42) and Albie Morkel (42 not out) provided some late fireworks but Chennai could only manage 151 for the loss of nine wickets.

Dhoni’s slammed quick-fire 42 but lasted only 29 balls before Symonds bowled him. Morkel kept the fight alive with his fire power but the time had flown by.

Sri Lankan pacer  Vaas bowled extremely well as Deccan Chargers beat Chennai Super Kings by 31 runs at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, Chennai, on Sunday.
