Royal Challangers Bangalore have tasted their first defeat on their home ground. Despite the heroics of Manish Pandey and Virat Kohli, RCB could not overhaul the score of 183 set be Delhi Daredevils at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore on Thursday. The RCB won the toss and chose to field. Delhi Daredevils beat them by 17 runs.
Batting first, a solid start from David Warner and a good partnership between AB de Villiers and Dinesh Karthik, took Delhi Daredevils to a fighting score of 183 for 4. Warner scored 33 off 14 balls. Sehwag coould not contribute much and was out for 12 runs.
A B de Villiers scored 45 and Dinesh Karthik (17) pushed the Delhi score through, but it was Kedar Jadhav who gave Delhi the perfect finish He scored 50 not out off 29 balls on his debut in the IPL-3.
But all through the Daredevils innnings, it was Warner who stole the thunder and T-20 cricket was at its best. He was infact playing every ball dangerously, defying death at the hands of the fielders. It can be said that he gave away two possible chances – once he could have been caught by Robin Uthappa and the other chance was when he edged while attempting the cut, which just fell short of the diving keeper.
He departed at the score read 44 for 1 and Sehwag soon followed suit. AB de Villiers and Dinesh Karthik kept rotating the strike and were content even in stealing singles apart from the occassional boundries.
After their departure, Kedar Jadav slammed big hits to push Delhi towards a fighting total of 183 for 4. Jadhav pulled a six off Dale Steyn which was a shot to be watched to be believed- perfect poise, perfect balance and perfect timing. Delhi Daredevils gave a target of 184 to the Royal Challangers Bangalore.
In reply thereto, Royal Challangers Bangalore started off well and lost their first wicket at the score of 71 runs when Amit Mishra spun the ball viciously to clean bowl Kallis for 27 runs. Thereafter wickets fell at regular interval and RCB could not consolidate on the start given to them by Kallis and Pandey. Pandey was out for 39 bowled by McDonald and Virat Kohli 38, Robin Uthhappa 15, Morgan 17 were the other contributors to the RCB score of 166 for 9 off 20 overs.
Andrew McDonald (2 for 42) and Amit Mishra (2 for 23) made life difficult for the RCB batsmen. Mishra removed Kallis with a googly and Robin Uthappa edged him and was caught by wc Kartik.
Delhi Daredevils beat Rajasthan Challangers, Bangalore by 17 runs. The highlight of this match was the splendid single handed catch taken by AB de Villiers at the long-on boundry, who had to jump back to get rid of Praveen Kumar for a duck.
The award for the maximum sixes went to David Warner.
The award for the Karbonn Kamaal Catch went to AB de Villiers.
Man of the match award was bagged by Kedar Jadhav who slammed 50 runs off 29 balls on his debut in IPL-3.
