IPL-3 : DELHI BEAT KOLKATTA

Delhi Daredevils won the toss and elected to bat against Kolkatta Knight Riders on Monday at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium, Delhi.  Warner stole the show with his splendid century and which helped  the Delhi  score to 177 for 8 wickets. Delhi had already lost three wickets – one in each of the three overs when  Virendra Sehwag Gautam Gambhir and Dinesh Kartik were all back to the stadium and KKR team was riding high.

The KKR team could never had envisioned what cricket had in store for them. Collingwood arrived at the crease with the Delhi score reading at 38 for 3.

Collingwood gave perfect support to Warner and they both made a record 4th wicket partnership of 128 runs. Thereafter it was raining sixes and both plundered boundaries at ease. At the half way stage Delhi were 91 runs after 10 overs and got their century at 11.3 overs.

Cricket is the game of glorious uncertainties. Firstly, Warner was given out caught and bowled Murli Kartik at 96 runs and the jam-packed stadium stood  in  stunned silence. Warner walked back towards the dressing room but the third umpire opined that the catch was not clean and Warner was recalled.

Later Hussey pulled an unbelievable catch which would have gone for a six but was thrown in and caught by him inside the boundry line. Kolkatta Knight Riders were given a target of 178 runs.

The Kolkatta Knight Riders batting was pathetic and they never took off from the launch pad. They holed out at 137 for 9 wickets. They lost wickets at regular intervals and their first four batsman were sent back to the pavilion within 50 runs. Chris Gayle 30, Hussey 29, Angelo Mathews 24 and Wardhman Saha 20 were the main contributors for the Kolkatta Knight Riders and the partnerships were no where to be seen.

For the Delhi Daredevils Nannes took 1 for 15, McDonalds 2 for 17 and Amit Mishra 1 for 18. But the pick of the bowlers was Umesh Yadav, who bowled magnificently and took 2 for 27. Even bowling at the speed of 140 to 145 kmph, his line and length was accurate. Delhi Daredevils beat Kolkatta Knight Riders by 40 runs.

Later during the presentation ceremony, Gautam Gambhir gave a special mention for Umesh Yadav who he believes is a good future prospect for the country.

The award for the maximum sixes went to David Warner.

The award for the Karbonn Kamaal Catch went to David Hussey.

The award for the Man of the Match was given to David Warner.
