M.S.Dhoni’s shrewd captaincy and clinical approach assured Chennai Super Kings the victory against the formidable Mumbai Indians  in the final of the IPL-3 tournament.

The closing ceremony delayed the toss by more than half an hour at the DY Patil Stadium, Mumbai.   It was MS Dhoni, who won the toss and chose to bat on Sunday. Both the sides played the same XIs that won them the semi-finals.

Raina’s 57 not out took Chennai Super Kings to a respectable and fighting total of 168 for 5 in the final of IPL-3 played Sunday at the D Y Patil Stadium Mumbai. Sachin, who was doubtful to play because of the stitches in his hand, came down to the toss for the match and the packed Stadium went ecstatic.  (more…)

Royal Challangers Bangalore beat Deccan Chargers by nine wickets in a totaly one-sided match. Deccan Chargers won the toss and elected to bat against Royal Challangers Bangalore at the D Y Patil Stadium Mumbai on Saturday.  Deccan Chargers struggled and slipped to reach to a total of 82 runs in the third-place play-off.

Not many people came to witness the game and it was a dull atmosphere which prevailed through Deccan’s innings. Adam Gilchrist and Monish Sharma opened the innings for Deccan Chargers and Gilchrist departed early caught at square leg boundary by Kallis while attempting to hit a six off a full toss from Kumble.

Apart from Anirudh who scored 40 runs for his team, no other batsman could contribute much to the Deccan Chargers score. Kumble opened the bowling against Gilchrist and got him out caught by Kallis in the first over. Praveen Kumar bowled well and mixed his cutters with slower ones, in a tight spell.  (more…)

Deccan Chargers had won the last five encounters consecutively and the law of averages finally caught up with them. A fine bowling display by Doug Bollinger enabled Chennai to enter the final of the IPL-3.

MS Dhoni won the toss and opted to bat on Thursday in the Second Semi final between Chennai Super Kings and Deccan Chargers played at the Dr. D.Y.Patil Stadium Mumbai. Dhoni had judged that the pitch would help the pacers now, and would take spin later. But his gamble did not initially work out as his batsmen failed to deliver the goods one after another and went back to the pavilion in quick succession.

Mathew Hayden and Murli Vijai opened the innings for Chennai and three regulation catches were dropped in the first five overs. Despite this lapse on the apart of Deccan, Chennai were a pathetic 50 for 3 after 8 and and at the half way mark were at 62 for the loss of 3 wickets. (more…)

IPL-3 : KOLKATTA BEAT MUMBAI

April 20th, 2010 by Ravi Matah | Posted in Sports   Comments Off on IPL-3 : KOLKATTA BEAT MUMBAI

Dwayne Bravo led the Mumbai Indians in the absence of Sachin Tendulkar and after winning the toss at the Eden Gardens Kolkatta chose to bat on Monday. Mumbai batting first meant that Kolkatta cannot defeat Mumbai by a huge margin today as they will only have to chase the assigned target.

As Mumbai made a mess of their batting in Sachin’s absence, they gave a target of only 134 to Kolkatta to win. It was a slow pitch in the Eden Gardens and Mumbai could only muster 133 runs for the loss of eight wickets. It was the grit and determination of Saurabh Tewary and Ambati Rayudu who brought Mumbai’s total to some element of respectability, if it can be called so.

Saurabh Tewary made 46 runs off 37 balls and puctuated them with 4 fours and one six. Ambavati Rayudu made 27 runs of 15 balls and hit 3 fours and a a six. It appeared that Mumbai had fielded a ‘B’ grade team in this inconsequential match today.  (more…)

Deccan Chargers have won all of their last five encounters on the trot. The famous dictum that catches win matches, was amply evident in today’s match.

Andrew Symonds was the only Delhi batsman who offered some resistance for Deccan Chargers against Delhi Daredevils.  Deccan were shaky at the start before the Symonds slow and cautious approach to the game saw Delhi  reach 145 for 7. (more…)
