Harbhajan Singh steered Mumbai to an emphatic win with wham-bam 49 which later followed by a three wicket haul at the DY Patil stadium in Mumbai. The game made a dramatic turn around for the Mumbai Indians when he hit eight fours and two sixes in front of a jam-packed stadium. Zaheer Khan also took three wickets who was ably supported from the other end by Malinga who also took 3 wickets for   wickets. This was the third striaight win for MI and stay on top of the points table.

Deccan Chargers won the toss and elected to field.

The pivotal role for the Deccan Chargers is always played by Adam Gilchrist, who unfortunately, went down to Harbhajan for a duck to Harbhajan caught by Sachin Tendulkar. That spelt disaster for the DC. 

Thereafter Rohit Sharma scored 45 runs  with two sixes and  three fours. The other contributors for Deccan Chargers were Monish Sharma 13, Hershelle Gibbs 27 and Suman 15.  (more…)

Rajasthan Royals beat Deccan Charges by  eight wickets at the Sardar Patel Stadium at Ahmedabad on Friday. It was a match where spectators enjoyed the rain of the sixes.

Deccan Chargers won the toss and chose to bat. There was some confusion as to who had called the coin correctly, but the toss was awarded to Deccan Chargers who chose to bat. Rajasthan Royals contained the flow of runs by some shrewd captaincy under Shane Warne, who not only rotated his bowlers well but he himself sent a wonderful spell bagging 1 wicket for 15 runs. Their best achievement was getting rid of Adam Gilchrist early for 1 run, and that helped uplift the morale of Rajasthan Royals. (more…)

Deccan Chargers won the toss and elected to bat first. They managed to put on a fighting score of 171 for 6 wickets on board in the allotted 20 overs. David Warner’s half-century and captain Dinesh Karthik’s fighting 46 were not enough as Delhi Daredevils threw away a sure-shot victory to go down by 10 runs to Deccan Chargers at the Barabati Stadium, Cuttack on Sunday.

Delhi appeared to be on the victory track but the departure of  Dinesh Kartik (c&b by Symonds) destroyed their hopes and thereafter Delhi’s wickets fell like nine pins. Symonds starred for the Chargers with both bat and ball, picking up three wickets for 21 runs from his four overs after scoring 35. (more…)

Kings XI Punjab won the toss and put Deccan Chargers in to bat. Deccan Chargers scored 170 for 7 in the allotted 20 overs in the IPL-3 match played at the Sabarmati Stadium Cuttack, on Friday. Symonds 53, Gilchrist 33, Gibbs 23 and Suman 26 were the main contributors  and this score was barely sufficient in the end to beat Kings XI Punjab by six runs. Kings XI Punjab had almost clinched the match because of the heroics of Irfan Pathan who unfortunately got out in the last over.

When Deccan Chargers were batting, they found lots of problems against the spin attack of Kings XI Punjab but were felt  totally at home against the pace of the likes of Sresaanth and after considerable struggle they managed to reach a competitive score of 170 runs in the first IPL game to be held in Cuttack. It was a huge win for Kolkata Knight Riders in front of a packed Eden Gardens crowd on Sunday.  Angelo Mathews bowled very well and picked up 4 wickets for 19 runs. This was KKRs second consecutive win and are at present at the head of the table with 4 points.

 Kolkata took charge of the match right from the beginning and Bangalore’s top order including Manish Pandey and Virat Kohli failed. The entire Bangalore batting did not click with the exception of Jacques Kallis who made an unbeaten 65 and tried to give some semblance to the total, but did not succeed and couldn’t save Bangalore from disaster. In the inaugural match of the IPL-3, Kolkatta Knight Riders beat Deccan Chargers by 11 runs at the Dr. D.Y.Patil Stadium at Mumbai. Adam Gilchrist won the toss and elected to field first and this decision was initially thought to be courageous as he had a good batting line-up and could have batted first but perhaps fielded first keeping the dew-factor in mind.

Chaminda Vaas bowled exceptionally well and took 2 KKR wickets in just 4 balls of his first over and the score card for KKR batting looked pathetic at 0-2. They had lost their first 4 wickets in quick succcesion and at that time it appeared that they would not reach even 100 runs.  (more…)

Earlier it was the Pakistani cricket players who were not bought by the team owners for the ensuing IPL-3 and created an international row on the issue. And now it is the Australian cricket players who despite having being bought by some of the team owners are under a shadow of doubt about their inclusion in the playing XI on the day of the matches.

Addressing his party  on Monday, Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray said Australian players cannot play matches in Maharashtra. Thackeray had issued the same warning earlier as payback for the repeated attacks against Indians in Australia. (more…)

The Indian Premier League on Saturday decided to move all of Deccan Chargers’ home games from Hyderabad and Vizag, home ground of the Deccan Chargers, due to political unrest over the Telangana region to Mumbai because of security fears due to the  agitation.

Deccan Chargers, the defending champions of IPL 2 will not be playing on the home ground, which they are very keen to do. If they play on the home-turf, they will have the moral support of the crowd as well as it will be a crowd-puller and money-spinner for their State.

The Andhra Pradesh capital was to host five matches, excluding the tournament opener on March 12, but the organizers have decided to move out. (more…)

The million dollar extravaganza, IPLT20 came to a close on 24th May 2009 at the Wanderers at South Africa with Deccan Chargers lifting the trophy defeating Royal Challengers Bangalore by six runs in a heart throbbing final encounter.

Anil Kumble won the toss for the RCB and opted to field first. Gilchrist was bowled by Kumble in the very first over. It then appeared that everything was over for Deccan Chargers but that was not to be. He took 4 wickets but still could not win the match for his team. At the ten overs time out mark, RCB were 62 for 3. Thereafter, Gibbs and Rohit Sharma gave some respectability to the score and the Deccan chargers were 143 for 6 after 20 overs.
