Deccan Chargers won the toss and chose to bat. There was some confusion as to who had called the coin correctly, but the toss was awarded to Deccan Chargers who chose to bat. Rajasthan Royals contained the flow of runs by some shrewd captaincy under Shane Warne, who not only rotated his bowlers well but he himself sent a wonderful spell bagging 1 wicket for 15 runs. Their best achievement was getting rid of Adam Gilchrist early for 1 run, and that helped uplift the morale of Rajasthan Royals. (more…)

Kings XI Punjab won the toss and decided to field against Rajasthan Royals at the PCA Stadium Mohali on Wednesday. While Rajasthan retained the same line-up of the previous match,  Punjab had brought in Sreesanth to strengthen their pace attack. The pitch at the PCA stadium had a lot of grass on top and was considered to be helpful to the seamers Sresaanth and Irfan Pathan who opened the bowling for Kings XI Punjab. Punjab’s decision to field made perfect sense in conditions favourable for bowling early on. Sreesanth and Irfan Pathan, managed to beat the outside edge on more than one occasion. (more…)

Royal Challengers Bangalore beat Chennai Super Kings by 36 runs in front of a 45,000 packed crowd on Tuesday at the M Chinnaswamy stadium, Bangalore. Chennai Super Kings won the toss and chose to field first. It appears that the decision to field first backfired on Chennai Super Kings. Jacques Kallis opened the innings with MK Pandey for the Royal Challengers Bangalore and was riding his luck for the first four overs, but not for long. A couple of close catches of Kallis were missed. He was clean bowled by Balaji for 19 runs. (more…)

MUMBAI INDIANS BT KKR

Saurav Ganguly won the toss and elected to bat Monday at the Brabourne Stadium. Ganguly opened the innings with Chris Gayle who put on 70 runs for the opening partnership.  The arrival of Chris Gayle didn’t quite set the Brabourne Stadium on fire, but scored a steady half-century, to take Kolkata Knight Riders to 155. Though Kolkata lost just three wickets, they were restricted to a small total due to the accurate bowling by the Mumbai bowlers who managed to curb the scoring.

Mumbai bowlers  sent down  yorkers and good length deliveries on the leg stump and close to the pads to restrict Kolkata’s scoring. That tactic worked well enough to keep Gayle checked and could not play freely as he is known to be a hard hitter. He reached his fifty, in the 16th over then he began to unleash himself. (more…)

DECCAN BT DELHI – IPL-3

March 21st, 2010 by Ravi Matah | Posted in Sports   Comments Off on DECCAN BT DELHI – IPL-3

Deccan Chargers won the toss and elected to bat first. They managed to put on a fighting score of 171 for 6 wickets on board in the allotted 20 overs. David Warner’s half-century and captain Dinesh Karthik’s fighting 46 were not enough as Delhi Daredevils threw away a sure-shot victory to go down by 10 runs to Deccan Chargers at the Barabati Stadium, Cuttack on Sunday.

Delhi appeared to be on the victory track but the departure of  Dinesh Kartik (c&b by Symonds) destroyed their hopes and thereafter Delhi’s wickets fell like nine pins. Symonds starred for the Chargers with both bat and ball, picking up three wickets for 21 runs from his four overs after scoring 35. (more…)

DECCAN CHARGERS BT KINGS XI PB

Kings XI Punjab won the toss and put Deccan Chargers in to bat. Deccan Chargers scored 170 for 7 in the allotted 20 overs in the IPL-3 match played at the Sabarmati Stadium Cuttack, on Friday. Symonds 53, Gilchrist 33, Gibbs 23 and Suman 26 were the main contributors  and this score was barely sufficient in the end to beat Kings XI Punjab by six runs. Kings XI Punjab had almost clinched the match because of the heroics of Irfan Pathan who unfortunately got out in the last over.

When Deccan Chargers were batting, they found lots of problems against the spin attack of Kings XI Punjab but were felt  totally at home against the pace of the likes of Sresaanth and after considerable struggle they managed to reach a competitive score of 170 runs in the first IPL game to be held in Cuttack.
