Virender Sehwag struck a whirlwind 102-ball 146 to power India to their highest ever total in one-day cricket, a massive 414 for seven, against Sri Lanka in the first match at Rajkot on Tuesday.  Sachin Tendulkar (69) and M. S. Dhoni (72) also contributed well as India improved upon their previous best total and made 414.  Sehwag was unstoppable after a slow beginning and made a career-best 146  with 17 fours and six in 102 balls.

India started cautiously after being asked to bat first by Lanka with the openers raising only 19 in the first five overs as the ball was swinging a bit. (more…)

Had he achieved it, he would have been the only batsman in Test history to establish the world record.

INDIA – SRILANKA – THIRD TEST

December 3rd, 2009 by Ravi Matah | Posted in Sports   Comments Off on INDIA – SRILANKA – THIRD TEST

Replying to Sri Lanka’s first innings total of 393, the 31-year-old Sehwag set the Brabourne stadium on fire by plundering runs at will to post a record score of 443 for one at close of second day’s play.

Sehwag notched up his 17th Test ton, his sixth 200 plus total, and laid the platform for India to push for victory which would take them to the number one position in the ICC Test rankings. Even though cricket is unpredictaable – Sehwag has set his eyes on the third triple century which will another feather in his cap. Sunil Gavaskar, who was in the commentators box, jokingly asked his colleague – is this a net practice or a Test match? A great compliment to Sehwag. (more…)
