March 18th, 2010 by | Posted in Sports Comments Off on MUMBAI INDIANS BT DELHI DAREDEVILSThe master blaster Sachin Tendulkar and Saurabh Tiwary, who were also ably supported by Ambati Rayudu, scripted Mumbai Indians victory over Delhi Daredevils at the Feroz Shah Kotla, Delhi on Wednesday. This was the second time Mumbai Indians
managed to score more than 200 and gave a target of 218 to Delhi to win. Sachin Tendulkar combined grace with power in his classy, match-winning score of 63 runs and was out in the 11th over of the match.
Sachin Tendulkar and young Saurabh Tiwary smashed blistering half-centuries as Mumbai Indians beat Delhi Daredevils by 98 runs to record their second successive victory in the Indian Premier League at Kotla on Wednesday.
Mumbai Indians, batting first rattled up their highest IPL total of 218 for seven, riding on the heroics of Tendulkar (63) and Tiwary (61) and then restricted Delhi to 120 for nine in what turned out to be a lop-sided contest at the Feroz Shah Kotla.
It was raining boundaries and sixes when Sachin was batting with utmost ease. The memory of his recent double-century came back while watching him on the Kotla pitch, which had otherwise became infamous for its notoriety a couple of months ago.
He brought up his fifty, off just 23 balls, with a paddle sweep to fine leg. Mishra, had Tendulkar caught at long-off by the substitute Yogesh Nagar who was fielding in place of injured Gautam Gambhir.
Tiwary and Rayudu took control of the things after Tendulkar’s departure and gave a wonderful exhibition of stroke play as the situation demanded.
Mumbai Indians score of 218 is the highest in this tournament so far – and Delhi had some task at hand. The Daredevils, were handicapped by the absence of their skipper Gautam Gambhir who left the field in the very second over of the day, began with a flourish but could never really recover after the dismissal of the swashbuckling Sehwag to suffer their first defeat in the event.
Mumbai completed an emphatic win over Delhi, beating them by a margin of 98 runs. This is the first loss for Delhi this season and with two wins off two games, Mumbai move to the top of the table. Delhi got off to a great start chasing 219 but soon lost rhythm as Dilshan got out.
Delhi lost wickets at regular interval as Mumbai bowlers strengthened their hold over the match. Delhi ended on 120/9 in 16.3 overs with Gambhir not coming out to bat after picking up an injury. Maharoof (28) ended as the top scorer for them while Sehwag (26) also got off to a fine start.
For Mumbai, Jayasuriya (2/17) bowled really well along with Bravo (2/11). Harbhajan picked up two wickets for 23 runs.
Sachin Tendulkar got the Man of the Match award.
