Chennai Super Kings won the toss and opted to bat at the M.A.Chidambram Stadium, Chennai  against the Rajasthan Royals and made a record 246 runs in a T 20 match. Though M.S.Dhoni enjoyed the first use of the pitch to the fullest, Shane Warne’s men were finding hard to fetch the ball in such hot weather on Saturday.

Channai Super Kings took in Sudeep Tyagi and and Bollinger to bolster their attack. The Rajasthan Royals brought Shane Watson into the playing eleven. Thanks to Murli Vijai and  Morkel,  Chennai Super Kings scored 246 for the loss of 5 wickets.

It was a scintillating batting performance by Murli Vijay who hit 11 sixes and 8 fours in his score of 127. Vijai got his century off 46 balls.

CSK were 91 for 2 after ten overs, and they slammed 155 in the final ten with Vijay and Albie Morkel setting a record for the tournament’s highest partnership.

Thereafter Hayden scored 34 runs comprising of a six and five fours. Suresh Raina contributed 13 runs and was out caught Tait b Warne. After 15 overs, Chennai Super Kings were 170 for 2.

The highlight of this match was when Doug Bollinger, on his debut, plucked the catch of Yusuf Pathan. He threw the ball from outside the ropes into the playing area, jumped back into the ground and held on to the catch. It was a superb example of his presence of mind in the most difficult situation. In fact he repeated David Hussey’s catch taken a couple of days ago.

At the time of losing the toss Warne had said that chasing any score was not much of an issue.  But that was not to be on this hot Saturday afternoon.

In reply thereto, though Rajasthan Royals did not give an abject surrender, they bravely fought back to score 227 for 5 and lost the match by 23 runs. Naman Ojha scored a chanceless 94 runs and was not out till the end. Lumb contributed 37 and Watson scored 60 runs. It was raining sixes all over the Stadium. It was not just a match, but was a festival of runs. 470 runs being scored of 40 overs in a T 20 match is by itself a record.

For the Chennai Super Kings Morkel took 2 for 56, Murli 1 for 52 and Bollinger 2 for 56 runs.

The award for the maximum sixes was given to Murli Vijai for hitting 11 sixes in the match.

The award for the Karbonn Kamaal Catch went to Doug Bollinger.

The Man of the match award was also bagged by Murli Vijai for his slam-bang 127 runs.
