M.S.Dhoni won the toss and opted to bat at the Vidharba Cricket Association Stadium at Nagpur on Saturday. It was a tremendously hot afternoon where the temperature hovered around 41*C. Mathew Hayden and Murli Vijai opened the innings for Chennai and took the score to 41 when Hayden was caught by Gilchrist bowled Harmeet for 19 runs.
Suresh Raina arrived at the crease and played some splendid shots. He got a reprieve when Monish Mishra could not spot the ball coming to him as he was trying to spot it against sunlight. Chennai got 50-1 in 5.3 overs. Later Murli Vijai did a suicide and was run-out after scoring 23 runs while taking a non-existent second run. Chennai were 74 for 2 after ten overs.
M.S.Dhoni came to the crease and was soon bowled by Pragyan Ojha who has bowled superbly all through this tournament. The Deccan spinners had slowed down the Chennai run-rate to such an extent that no boundry was hit for the last 37 balls and then Raina slammed a six over deep mid-wicket boundry. It was the 14th over then.
The Deccan fielding had been exceptionally good today. CSK got their 100 in the 14th over. Hussey was caught by Sumanth and bowled by Symonds for 8. Later Suresh Raina was caught by Rohit Sharma bowled by Harris for 52 and it was the end of the road for Chennai.
None of the CSK batsmen could survive the Deccan Chargers bowling attack coupled with effective fielding and they were 138 for 8 in the allotted 20 overs.
For the Chennai team, Harris bowled superbly and took 3 wickets for 16, R.P.Singh got 1 for 18 and Harmeet got 1 for 17.

Another half century from T Suman who scored 55 runs and was ably supported by Andrew Symonds’ who scored 27 runs ensured that Deccan Chargers achieved the victory conveniently and without any hiccups. Ashwin was out in the fifth over and Rohit Sharma fell to a mistimed shot outside off stump was caught by Tyagi bowled Raina.
