Chennai Super Kings won the toss at the M.A.Chidambaram Stadium Chennai and opted to bat against the Delhi Daredevils. Dhoni must still be wondering whether he had taken the right decision. It was an absolute dismal batting performance by Chennai who lost wickets at regular intervals. At one stage Chennai were 23 for 3 and at the ten over half mark they were 55 for 6.

Badrinath scored 30 runs with the help of 2 fours and helped Chennai cross the hundred run mark.

Daredevils produced a disciplined bowling and fielding performance to restrict Chennai to 112 for 9. Though Badrinath contributed 30 valuable runs for his team other batsmen could not do justice and Vijai scored 17, Raina 15 and Hussey also contributed 15 runs. Doug Bollinger scored 16 runs and the only six of the match was also scored by him.

They were reduced to the lowest score of the IPL-3 as they could muster only 112 runs for the loss of 9 wickets.

The pitch initially gave help to the fast bowlers but later turned and then the spinners ruled the roost.

Chennai had left out Muttiah Muralitharan, and entrusted  the spin-bowling attack to R Ashwin and also included Michael Hussey in the XI. Delhi brought in Tillakaratne Dilshane and Dirk Nannes in place of AB de Villiers and Andrew McDonald.

For the Delhi team Nehra took 3 for 26, Sehwag 2 for 18 Mishra 1 for 13 and Nanes 1 for 25.

In reply to their total, Delhi gave a pathetic performance with the bat and had also lost 3 quick wickets and were 6 for 3 with Warner, Sehwag and Dilshan back into the pavilion.

Then Gambhir and Karthik tried to repair the damage but  Karthik top-edged a pull shot off Jakati for S Badrinath to take the catch at midwicket and  Delhi were  38 for four.

Thereafter Gautam Gambhir and Manhas batted with caution and took Dellhi out of the mess. Gambhir scored 57 runs with 5 fours and Manhas gave an excellent support to his captain while scoring 25 runs which were punctuated with 2 fours.

Raina bowled well and in the 12th over of the match he gave away only one single run of the last ball.

Delhi team won the match by six wickets and are now perched at the third place of the points table with 14 points.

Today’s match was vital for both teams as they were level on 12 points after 12 games. Prior to this match Chennai were  third and Delhi fourth on the points table.

The award for the Maximum sixes was awarded to Bollinger.

The award for the Karbonn Kamaal catch was given to Mathew Hayden.

Gautam Gambhir won the Man of the match award.
