Australia thrashed England winning by an innings and 80 runs inside three days on Sunday to take the fourth Test and level the five-match Ashes series at 1-1, after Mitchell Johnson took five second-innings wickets.

This win levels the Ashes test series and the final test will be played at The Oval on 20th August.

England , who were down and almost out at 82-5 on Sunday were bowled out for  263.
At lunch they were 245 for eight still 98 behind with Harmison and Swann at the crease. Then Swann was caught behind for 62 runs and the end of England’s batting was clearly visible.

 The eight wicket stand of 108 between Broad and Swann was the only silver lining in the otherwise dark clouds in the innings and delayed the inevitable defeat. Mitchell Johnson took 5 wickets for 69 runs. Broad scored his fifth test fifty and was out caught by Watson off Siddle.

Johnson completed the formalities in the sixth over after lunch to make the series level.

Australia had made 445 runs in their first innings

Andrew Strauss said that “We started poorly, and the team should retain its composure despite this defeat. We are not proud of what we have done this week, now we have to lift oursrelves. We should not panic”, he added.

 Ponting said.that,  “Its’ been an enjoyable week for us and it’s the chance the whole team has been waiting for since we lost at Lord’s. We’ve been  wanting to play well to win a game and get back to 1-1.

With the series level at 1-1, all eyes will be  now on the Oval Test commencing 20th August.
