A couple of weeks ago I had an irritation in my left nostril, the left ear and slight cough also. Oh my God, I was scared that I had contacted swine flu. The day before I had gone to receive a friend at the airport, a Lecturer from Pune University

Pune has been in the news for many days with all news channels giving the news – Swine Flu spreads in Pune – from dawn to dusk. They have also been giving live telecasts of interviews from residents of Pune who cannot even spell the name of the disease. ‘Breaking news’ became ‘repeating news’. (more…)

SWINE FLU DEATHS – TAKE PRECAUTIONS

Swine flu in India, has so far claimed six lives. The latest casualties being a 35-year-old ayurvedic doctor died of swine flu in Pune, while a four-year-old boy lost his life due to this flu in Chennai this morning.

Health Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad, the Cabinet Secretary K.M.Chandrashekhar and  Health Secretary Naresh Dayal, met soon after two more deaths due to swine flu were reported in the country and discussed measures to contain the further spread of the disease.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had asked the Health Ministry on Sunday to co-ordinate with state governments and take adequate measures to contain further spread of the disease. (more…)

TAKE PRECAUTIONS

The outbreak of swine flu began in Mexico, and there is evidence that Mexico was already in the midst of an epidemic months before the outbreak was recognized. Soon after, their government closed down most of Mexico City’s public and private offices and facilities to help contain the spread. Vaccine and pandemic experts are working with the administration to determine how to produce, test, track and educate the public about the treatment, prevention and protection from swine flu.

India will need its’ fare share of vaccines for treatment of the swine flu epidemic. (more…)
