Deccan Chargers defended the lowest total chase and beat Delhi Daredevils by 11 runs at the Feroz Shah Kotla Ground, Delhi on Sunday. Batting first, Deccan Chargers scored 145 for 7 wickets and they got them in 134 for 7 in the allotted 20 overs. Deccan Chargers won the toss and chose to bat.

Deccan Chargers have won all of their last five encounters on the trot. The famous dictum that catches win matches, was amply evident in today’s match.

Andrew Symonds was the only Delhi batsman who offered some resistance for Deccan Chargers against Delhi Daredevils.  Deccan were shaky at the start before the Symonds slow and cautious approach to the game saw Delhi  reach 145 for 7.

Symonds’ 54 runs gave Deccan’s total a semblance of respect. It was a good performance from Delhi but Symonds’ sparkling knock had given Deccan a workable total to defend which they defended with their superb fielding and catching. Delhi had reached their 100 run mark in 16.2 overs.

Rohit Sharma took two beautiful catches to spell doom for Delhi. In the first one he got rid off Sehwag while taking an acrobatic catch diving to his right and got the other danger man Gambhir in his second catch.

Deccan solely depended on Symonds. Marshall gave good support to Symonds. Who treated Amit Mishra with hits off the fence. Neither his googly nor the leg brakes had any effect on Symonds. At the 15th over mark Deccan were 116 for 4. Delhi applied the brakes after the departure of Symonds.

Only 19 runs were required of the last 8 balls and 17 of the last over which was superbly bowled by Chamunda Vaas and Delhi could muster only 134 for 7 wickets.

Kartik had came to the crease when Delhi required 78 from last 8 overs and was consumed by Ojha. Collingwood tried his level best to come to Delhi’s rescue but could not achieve the desired objective. He was dropped twice and remained not out at 51 runs scored with one boundary and three sixes.

For the Deccan Chargers Marsh took 1 for 19. Vaas got 1 for 19, Harmeet 2 for 41 and Ojha 2 for 16.

Deccan Chargers beat Delhi Daredevils by 11 runs.

The award for the maximum sixes was given to Andrew Symonds.

The award for the Carbonn Kamaal Catch went to Rohit Sharma.

The Man of the match award went to Andrew Symonds.
