Paul Collingwood won the toss and asked Australia to bat first.  Australia lost three quick wickets in the final of ICC World Cup T20 tournament at the Kensington Oval ground on Sunday. The law of averages had caught up with the Australians who were all along on a winning streak, till today.

They were in dire straits when David Hussey saved them from a total disaster by scoring 59 runs off 54 balls. With the top cream back to the pavilion, it was the middle order which pushed Australia to 147 for the loss of 6 wickets at the end of 20 overs.

It was again Cameroon White who scored 30 runs off 19 balls in the company of M Hussey who gave some respectability to the Australian total. It was remarkable bowling and superb fielding by the England players that Australia were 8 for 3 in three overs. (more…)

ENGLAND CRUSH AUSTRALIA – ASHES

England regained the Ashes with a 197-run win over Australia in the fifth and final Test at the Oval here on Sunday. Victory was  achieved with more than a day to spare and  England took a 2-1 lead in the five match series. England outplayed Australia in all departments of the game.

Fifteen wickets fell in a dramatic day, which began with England ending its first innings on 332, then dismissing Australia for 160 when Broad claimed 5-37.  England was quickly reduced to 39-3 after being 27-0 at ane stage.
 In the two-hour afternoon session Australia lost eight wickets, and then saw all 10 wickets fall for 87 runs in 30 overs. They were playing at  61-0 at lunch

ENGLAND vs AUSTRALIA – 4th ASHES TEST

Australia thrashed England winning by an innings and 80 runs inside three days on Sunday to take the fourth Test and level the five-match Ashes series at 1-1, after Mitchell Johnson took five second-innings wickets.

This win levels the Ashes test series and the final test will be played at The Oval on 20th August.

England , who were down and almost out at 82-5 on Sunday were bowled out for  263. (more…)

ENGLAND BEAT AUTRALIA AFTER 75 YEARS

In his final act at the home of cricket, Andrew Flintoff, who has announced his retirement after the series, broke England’s 75-year Lord’s curse with his first five-wicket haul. Flintoff, who bowled unchanged for ten overs from the Pavilion End took  three of the five Australian wickets to fall on Monday

The victory was England’s first in a Test against Australia at Lord’s in 75 years and they beat Australia by 115 runs. (more…)

INDIA OUT OF WORLD CUP

India is out of world cup T20 tournament 2009. I still don’t know what happened but India were cruising along smoothly at 48 for no loss against South Africa (who had made only 130 runs) when I slept hoping for sure that India would at least win this match and save their faces.  But the 8 AM news next morning told me that they had lost by 12 runs.

Every cloud has a silver lining. Someone out there had to tell Dhoni and company that they need to improve their game and not to be too complacent. Do you know what would have happened had India won this tournament? Had India won the T20 title, Lalit Modi would have announced eight IPLs in one year. What would have happened then? Utter chaos.
