IPL-3 : CHENNAI THRASH PUNJAB

M.S.Dhoni slammed 54 (not out) which enabled Chennai Super Kings to beat Kings XI Punjab by six wickets in a nail-biting finish. Chennai Super Kings won the toss and elected to field at the HPCA Stadium, Dharamsala on Sunday. Battiing first, Kings XI Punjab opened the innings with Jayawardane and Marsh. Jayawardane was out for 21   runs at the score of 34 for 1. He had hit 2 fours and two sixes.

Sangakara came in to bat and joined Marsh at the crease. Together they took the score to 90 for 2.  Sangakara was out after scoring 33 runs off 24 balls which included 5 shots to the fence. Yuvraj did not last long and was lbw bowled Raina for 1 run.

Shaun Marsh and Irfan Pathan played some incredible shots and took the score to 192 for 2. Marsh scored 88 runs which included 8 fours and 5 sixes and his bravado was a treat to watch. Irfan Pathan gave him adequate support at the other end and scored 44 runs punctualted 4 fours and a six. They added 99 runs for the fourth wicket off only 48 balls. (more…)

IPL-3 : DECCAN BEAT PUNJAB

The Kings XI  Punjab scored 174 for the loss of three wickets against the Deccan Chargers at the HPCA Stadium in the picturesque hilly town of Dharamshala on Thursday. Jayawardane and Shaun Marsh opened the innings for Kings XI Punjab and Marsh was out for a duck caught Gilchrist bowled Harris. Then Jayawardane alongwith his Sr Lankan team-mate[[ Kumar Sangakara took control of the Punjab’s innings. 

The first 50 of the innings came in 6.5 overs. Jayawardane got a life when was dropped off Pragyan Ojha in the 9th over when he was on 21 runs. Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara later scored fifties to take Kings XI Punjab to a strong position.  (more…)

IPL-3 : PUNJAB BEAT DELHI

A brilliant bowling and fielding performance from Kings XI Punjab bundled out Delhi Daredevils  for 111 runs. Delhi Daredevils won the toss and elected to bat against Kings XI Punjab at the Feroz Shah Kotla ground, Delhi on Sunday. Punjab began their bowling attack with Ramesh Powar, a spinner, and Delhi spinners virtually spun Delhi out of the ground.

Kings XI Punjab lost wickets at regular intervals with Sehwag being caught by Sodhi off the bowling of Irfan Pathan and then the slide began. A worthwhile contribution to the score came from Gautam Gambhir who scored 26 runs and was run out.

Gambhir was called for a non-existant run by Warner and was sent back without enough time for him to reach the crease. Warner was also run out for 6 and the other batsman to contribute to the score was Dinesh Karthik, who had made 17 runs. (more…)

Kings XI Punjab beat Mumbai Indians by six wickets in an exciting encounter and got  victory over the team sitting pretty on top of the table. Mumbai Indians won the toss and elected to bat at the PCA Stadium,Mohali, Chandigarh on Friday. Sachin Tendulkar and Shikhar Dhawan opened the innings for Mumbai.

They have included Zaheer Khan, who has been declared fit, to strengthen their pace attack. Unfortunately, Dhawan fell on the very first ball of the second over bowled by Irfan Pathan. Irfan bowled an in-swinger to Dhawan, who, trying to cut it to square-leg area, played on and was back after scoring only two runs. (more…)

Rajasthan Royals beat Kings XI Punjab by nine wickets and still had the lukury of five overs to spare. Such was the ferocity of the Rajasthan Royals batsmen that they made mince-meat  of all the Punjab bowlers. Kings XI Punjab won the toss and elected to bat at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium at Jaipur on Wednesday. 

Bisla and Jayawardane opened the innings and after four overs they were 30 for 1 with Bisla being caught by Fazal bowled Watson for 20 runs. Sangakara could not contribute much to the total and was out for 9 runs. After 10 overs they were 86 for 2.  (more…)

A superb knock of 110 not out by Mahila Jayawardane saw Kings XI Punjab beat Kolkatta Knight Riders on Sunday. Jayawardane’s knock over-shadowed the knock of 88 runs scored by Chris Gayle earlier and beat the Kolkatta Knight Riders by 8 wickets.  Kolkatta Knight Riders, won the toss and chose to bat first against Kings XI Punjab at the Eden Gardens Kolkatta on Sunday. They opened the innings with Saurav Ganguly and Chris Gayle who made mince-meat of the Kings XI Punjab bowling.

Kolkatta Knight Riders were 100 in nine overs and Gayle started hitting more fluently thereafter. Gayle was initially batting slowly but played wonderfully well after the ten over mark. Gayle had milked Bopara for 33 runs in an over which is by far the most runs scored  in an over in the IPL. The opening partnership yielded 56 runs and it was then Ganguly got out  c & b Bopara for 36.  (more…)

Royal Challengers Bangalore beat Kings XI Punjab by six wickets. Irresponsible fielding by Kings XI Punjab and a series of dropped catches cost them the match. Kings XI Punjab won the toss and chose to bat against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Friday at the PCA Stadium, Mohali.

Shaun Marsh and Manvinder Bisla opened the innings but Marsh was caught by Dravid off the bowling of Vinay Kumar after scoring only 2 runs. Dravid has a reputation of having the safest pair of hands in the slip region. (more…)

Mumbai Indians won the toss and elected to field on Tuesday at the Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai.  Bopara and Marsh opened the innings for KXIP but Bopara was packed quickly and sent to pavilion when he had made just 1 run lbw b Zaheer Khan. Thereafter, at one stage it appeared as if it was a match between Shaun Marsh and Mumbai. Lasith Malinga starred with the ball and Shikhar Dhawan shone with the bat as Mumbai Indians beat Kings XI Punjab by four wickets. IPL-3 : KOLKATTA BEAT PUNJAB

Kolkatta Knight Riders won the toss and chose to bat against Kings XI Punjab at the PCA Stadium Mohali on Saturday. Saurav Ganguly and Manoj Tewari hit half centuries for Kolkatta Knight Riders and scored 183 for 5 wickets; a score which the KingsXI Punjab could not reach and lost the match by 39 runs.  David Hussey returned to the squad for the KKR and Bret Lee made his first appearance for Kings XI Punjab and opened the bowling attack.

Chris Gayle opened the  innings with Saurav Ganguly for the Kolkatta Knight Riders. Gayle was out caught by Bisla, bowled Salabh Srivastava for 14 runs.  Saurav Ganguly and Manoj Tewary took over the reigns of the KKR and consolidated the innings. Ganguly struck his maiden 50 of IPL-3. Ganguly hit this  half century  after 16 innings and the last one was hit in 2008. (more…)

Kings XI Punjab won the toss and decided to field against Rajasthan Royals at the PCA Stadium Mohali on Wednesday. While Rajasthan retained the same line-up of the previous match,  Punjab had brought in Sreesanth to strengthen their pace attack. The pitch at the PCA stadium had a lot of grass on top and was considered to be helpful to the seamers Sresaanth and Irfan Pathan who opened the bowling for Kings XI Punjab. Punjab’s decision to field made perfect sense in conditions favourable for bowling early on. Sreesanth and Irfan Pathan, managed to beat the outside edge on more than one occasion. (more…)
