SPIRITUAL BOOM IN INDIA

August 30th, 2009 by Ravi Matah | Posted in Life   Comments Off on SPIRITUAL BOOM IN INDIA

India is known as the holy land  where  Lord Krishna explained the mysteries of life and death in the battlefield of Kurukshetra to Arjuna in  the great Bhagvata Gita, when the war of Mahabharata was fought.

Bhagwat Gita, is the most revered book in Indian mythology and its preachings are the main subject being taught in most of the Ashrams. The lessons in the chapter of Bhagwat Gita in the Mahabharata Magnum Opus  are the complete knowledge of life  and are the true guidelines for exemplary conduct and behaviour.

The people round the globe associate India with yoga, meditation and spiritualism. If one talks of spiritual channels alone, the market is huge in India. There are more than ten TV Channels which are doing the job of propagating religion 24×7 in hindi and english  alone. (more…)

DRIVE SAFELY – CONCENTRATE

August 26th, 2009 by Ravi Matah | Posted in Life   Comments Off on DRIVE SAFELY – CONCENTRATE

We had to take our flight to Seattle on 19 Aug and that very evening we went to the market to pick up  medicine from the chemists shop in Vasant Kunj, Delhi  which I needed to carry to States for the duration of my stay there. After buying the medicine, we headed home. There were only two steps down to the road from that shop. When I was about to get down the first step, the cell phone in my sis-in-laws’ purse rang.  I was momentarily distracted and I missed the first step and my foot landed on the second. I was disbalanced, would have fallen down and taken the early morning flight minus my nose, but for the gentleman who was entering the shop and held me by the shoulder. (more…)

PARENTING…

August 23rd, 2009 by Ravi Matah | Posted in Life   Comments Off on PARENTING…

I distinctly remember it was the year 1995. My daughter had just appeared for her graduation final exams. She said, “Pa”, as she proudly addresses me “Yes “, I said. “Pa, I think you have spent more than 450,000 rupees on my education alone so far”.

I was taken aback. Never ever thought of that, and why should I. I had only performed my duties towards both my kids.

“Why, how did you ever come to think of that?” I asked.
“Nothing, it just occurred to me”, she replied. (more…)

SWINE FLU, DOCTOR AND DIAGNOSIS

August 21st, 2009 by Ravi Matah | Posted in Life   Comments Off on SWINE FLU, DOCTOR AND DIAGNOSIS

A couple of weeks ago I had an irritation in my left nostril, the left ear and slight cough also. Oh my God, I was scared that I had contacted swine flu. The day before I had gone to receive a friend at the airport, a Lecturer from Pune University

Pune has been in the news for many days with all news channels giving the news – Swine Flu spreads in Pune – from dawn to dusk. They have also been giving live telecasts of interviews from residents of Pune who cannot even spell the name of the disease. ‘Breaking news’ became ‘repeating news’. (more…)

PARKING WOES

July 18th, 2009 by Ravi Matah | Posted in Life   Comments Off on PARKING WOES

In early sixties, a bicycle was my mode of transport to school, market and back. I used to drive it downtown almost everyday. Those days the streets wore a deserted look.

Slowly the volume of traffic increased and so did the parking woes! All modes of transport multiplied and the once wide roads became narrow ‘No Parking’ boards sprouted everywhere and the ‘parking lot’ could hardly accommodate a dozen cars at a time. This resulted in total chaos. (more…)

THE BRIDE

July 14th, 2009 by Ravi Matah | Posted in Life   Comments Off on THE BRIDE

beautiful-bangali-bride_~k1280044I was then a 24 year old girl, had my ambitions, but my parents were busy searching for a suitable boy through newspaper ads as well as through the net.

One day I was told that we all had to go to meet the prospective groom. I was feeling shy and reluctant to go. I was scared of the phrase ‘in-laws’ because of reading stuff in the newspapers about quarrels brewing after weddings. (more…)

THE MONSTROUS CREDIT CARD

July 12th, 2009 by Ravi Matah | Posted in Life   Comments Off on THE MONSTROUS CREDIT CARD

The rise in costs of all essential commodities is making things difficult. Money is for spending and it should be spent for a good cause. Extraordinary expenditure should be incurred only on special occasions like weddings of children or construction of house.

It needs to be understood that financial difficulties are only the result of very simple and impulsive, sentimental mistakes. You have to save for potential illness or any other emergency that might occur in future.

Start saveing Now!

Start saving Now!

Don’t spend on things that your don’t really need. If you are desirous of buying something and are eager about it, just control the urge and hold on for a second and think – do I really need it? You might avoid it. Indiscriminate buying also creates clutter at home. It is the spending habits that lead you to debt.

READY TO HELP

July 10th, 2009 by Ravi Matah | Posted in Life   Comments Off on READY TO HELP

We have to withstand erratic behaviour from various people day in and day out in carrying out our household chores. We  also have to bear  these idiosyncratic stances patiently. Isn’t that really amazing? People are still worrying about non-issues and turning a blind eye to the day to day difficulties.

When Dhoni and Harbhajan did not attend the Padma Shri awards some idiot filed a lawsuit against them. Oh, please forgive them for they know not what they have done. Does he know that there are thousands of other social issues to choose from, for which he should knock that door. Just see how we are utilising our valuable time.

It takes me two hours standing in the queue to pay the electricity bill as there is only one counter. Why can’t they open more counters to divide the rush. I have to carry the previous month’s paid bill, with receipt, with me just in case it is not fed in their computer.

PRETTY WOMAN – THE LESSON LEARNT

July 3rd, 2009 by Ravi Matah | Posted in Life   Comments Off on PRETTY WOMAN – THE LESSON LEARNT

This 1990 movie is special and still makes a deep impact on the viewer. It is the unique idea of the story which made it click. Wow, what a way to make millions of dollars while cashing in on a young man’s dream? Every young man’s dream is to find a beautiful girl, shower gifts on her, make her happy, dine out, buy her a full wardrobe, buy her jewelry and fulfill her desires and enjoy the marital bliss.

A corporate businessman Edward Lewis (Richard Gere) has just split up with his girlfriend. Seeking directions to the Beverly Hills Hotel, he meets a hooker, Vivian (Julia Roberts) and decides to keep her as his ‘date’ for one week. He showers affection on her by buying her an expensive wardrobe. It was a fairy tale beginning to a fruitful end in romance. (more…)

LIFE’s LIKE THAT

June 28th, 2009 by Ravi Matah | Posted in Life   Comments Off on LIFE’s LIKE THAT

Life is neither very easy nor very difficult. My best period was school which was followed by college. After studies, it was the office. After a few years of performing office duties I got married and took care of the two kids, their education, their wedding and then one fine morning I got an order on my table that I was going to retire on January 31st.

My life went past like a machine and as it is said in any new car advertisement “0 to 60 in 10 seconds”. Yes my life was just like that. In 10 seconds I was 60 years – retired but not tired, still possessed the zeal and stamina to live it all over again, if permitted. I am a human being; I have my desires which are still unfulfilled. I wanted to learn the guitar and play the drums, join the gym, but could not due to the paucity of time and lots of duties. (more…)
